Community Participation

Supporting social interaction and enjoyable activities.

What is Community Participation?

Community Participation supports, also known as ‘Community Access,’ help participants engage with their community. This support can be provided through 1:1 assistance with a support worker or in a group setting with other participants and staff. Activities may include social outings, attending appointments, participating in events, and accessing various community resources with the support of staff.

How to Access Community Participation Supports?

As an NLIS participant, you can access community participation support through the Core Budget of your NLIS Plan. Since ‘Community Access’ is a core support, it is flexible and does not need to be explicitly stated in your plan. However, we recommend discussing this with your Support Coordinator or LAC to plan for ongoing community participation and ensure it’s included in your NLIS Plan.

Become Socially Active and Participate in Your Community!

At Living Independently Services, we recognize the importance of maintaining good mental health, socializing, and staying active in the community. We support our participants by encouraging them to get outside, enjoy fresh air, engage with others, and participate in fun activities. This fosters a sense of belonging and connection to the broader community.
